Whilst working at Sunshine Castle I was fortunate to be just a couple of hours from Noosa, home to one of only two Everglades systems in the world. Obviously, this was an opportunity I was never going to pass up and I used a couple of days off to make a trip up and do a Cruise N' Canoe with Everglades Eco Safaris.

Later in my time I was given the news no backpacker ever wants to hear: my visa extension had been refused! The reasons why are a long story for another time, but it was time to get back on the road and see as much of the country as I could with what little time I had left. I finished my final shift at the castle and headed back up to Noosa, where I would be joining a 2 day tour of K'Gari, also known as Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world. A particular highlight of this trip was driving 4x4s on sand for long stretches of time, as the island is surprisingly huge and we were lucky to have a great guide, Corey, who managed to show us as much as possible on this shortened tour. I would have loved to do the 3 day tour but, as the clock was ticking, I had to make a sacrifice.

After this, I began to make my way south, with a few days each in Surfers Paradise and Byron Bay. In Surfers I was met with bad weather, and the footage I was able to shoot was unfortunately corrupted, alongside my best material from Byron Bay, where I only have a small selection from my Whale Kayak session which was, unfortunately, cancelled early on as the winds were ripping us out to sea. I would have loved to get up close and personal to some humpback whales, but at least I got a refund (thanks to booking it all through Welcome To Travel) and a VERY good workout.
